This weekend we went to Bentonville, AR for Masquerade dance competition. It was really exciting because it was the studio's first competition ever. Brian was really excited about the "dad" shirts too...they were Dickey work shirts that said Rock City Stage Crew.
We got to Bentonville Friday evening and headed to the hotel. The next morning was Olivia's solo and duet. The solo got a gold, her duet a high gold and came in 3rd for petite intermediate duets/trios. Then it was time to get Liv ready for her groups. New York, New York looked GREAT and got a platinum. It also came in first for junior intermediate small groups as well as a special judges award of Big City, Big Lights. Stand By You won a platinum and came in 3rd for petite small/large groups.
Bella's dance, Magic, was hilarious! It got a gold award. She also won the photogenic category with a high gold.
Bella left with my mom and Kathy (and Sarah and her daughter, Ava, for a "sleepover" so we wouldn't have to have her out so late. The plan was that mom would keep Bella with her and take her home on Sunday afternoon.
Well, Brian started feeling bad that afternoon and by that evening, he was really bad. We went to have dinner with the Levin's at Outback, and left as soon as dinner was over because he was getting sick. We went by a Walgreen's for meds and Clorox wipes before heading back to the hotel. The next morning, we woke up and got ready for the day...he was not any better. We checked out of the hotel and headed to competition.
Soon after arriving, we decided that Brian needed to go home. It was worked out that he could ride home with Tyler Pate, Mary Ellen's dad--who was planning on leaving after teen tap, Second Line. So, after the tap dance, the dads left for home while we stayed for awards. Second Line got a high gold award, and then it was on with the rest of the dances. This competition was weird with the organization. Not all of the dances in that division had gone so they couldn't do overalls with Second Line.
The dilema of the day was about the Encore performance... The judges were to pick the 5 most entertaining acts of the day to perform again for a chance of the Encore Trophy...and that would not be announced until 8:30ish at night. We had planned to be home by then since mom was going home with Bella early. However, since Brian had gone home sick, I could stay with Liv to see if either Second Line or Arkansas Swag made it into the encore.
Olivia and I went to Brahams for lunch and then returned to get ready for Arkansas Swag. Just before they were supposed to go back stage, the fire alarm went off. At first we thought it was a joke, but realized the whole building was evacuated. We went across the street, and Kristen got all of the RCDC kids together for a photo op! How fun...but COLD! Come to find out, a curling iron had set off the alarm. Firemen came and cleared the room before we could all re-enter the building.
AR Swag went on right after that and it looked AWESOME!!!! Liv and I hung out for the rest of the afternoon and evening waiting for the announcement... I really wanted to go home, but did NOT want to chance one of her dances getting in. Well, I'm glad we stayed...AR Swag got in!!! I got her ready, and started packing the car. I told her we had to leave as soon as the dance was over.
They were the 5th one to go in the encore, so we watched the whole thing until their turn. After they danced, I pulled her and we left. We started the 3 hour drive home at 10pm. I was so tired! Luckily, Krysten Levin and Tracy Pate kept me awake with phone calls! :)
I found out that AR Swag WON the Encore trophy and got a platinum award! 2nd Line came in first place for intermediate teen large groups as well...AND Mrs. Kristen got a choreography award for that dance! How exciting!!!
We got in at 1 am, but it was a great way to end our first competition at RCDC! RCDCETJODT!!
Here is my little dancer at 1 am when we got home... :)
